Generations ago, the Aincourt family was given a title and land for their loyalty to the king. But the former abbey they received came with a price–a curse that no family member would ever know happiness.

Devin Aincourt, Earl of Ravenscar, makes no apologies for who he is–a drinker, a womanizer, a gambler. Having been cast aside by his disapproving father years before, Dev is content to live out his cursed life in this hedonistic manner. Until his mother asks him to make a bold move to restore the family name and fortune marry a rich American heiress.

Believing it will be a marriage in name only, Dev agrees to marry Miranda. But he never imagined that this feisty, unconventional foreigner would have plans of her own to restore Blackwater, the old abbey, to its former glory, to extricate Dev from the clutches of a devious mistress and to win his heart for her own. All while risking her own life to an unknown enemy.

For Dev and Miranda, love may be the most lasting curse of all.

So Wild a Heart Mills Boon MB edition by Candace Camp Romance eBooks

I cannot believe this book received so many positive reviews. I almost did not finish it. I really disliked Miranda. I like feisty heroines and she was good, ultimately, for Devin, but being on a first-name basis with John Jacob Astor, plus being somehow involved with the creation of the Erie Canal—SERIOUSLY!!!

The plot was so contrived and the coincidences so unbelievable: her stepmother being Dev’s former lover??

Not for me.

So Wild a Heart Mills Boon MB edition by Candace Camp Romance eBooks Reviews

This book was a work of joy to read! IT was so much fun to watch the sparks fly between hero and heroine. The hero is a rake and wastes his life but this feisty American heroine sees through his exterior to the man inside the shell!

Dev is a good man but living behind a wall to protect him from his worse memory and the tragic result of his early "wild oats" period of his life Miranda really studies and delves into Dev's life, to make sure there is a man worth saving before agreeing to give her hand in marriage and fortune to restore his home, settle his debts, and bring him back to life!

The sparks between them, the thoughts and gentle bringing out of Dev is a joy to watch and Ms. Camp does it all so well that you really have a difficult time putting this book down and when you do--your mind wonders--"WHAT NEXT"?

Then "accidents" happen to Miranda and this helps to focus Dev's mind on who he really loves! (He has had a "lady bird" for many years and thinks he's deeply in love with her.) The way Miranda makes Dev question the beliefs of the day about a "woman's place" is really fun to watch. This book is just pure fun and enjoyment waiting for you to indulge.
Candace Camp just gets better and better. Miranda is one of the best heroines I've met in ages. Smart, self-confident, knows what she wants and how to get it. It's lovely to watch Devin go from the dark hell of debauchery and enthalldom to a truly vicious mistress to the love and life that Miranda offers him. And how she gets him to that point is wonderful to watch.

I really appreciated the fact that Miranda is not of the Too Stupid To Live variety. Or the fact that h/h didn't fight from page 1 till the next to the last page before they called it "love". Their fights were believeable and fun to watch. They progressed the story. All in all, a very satisfying read. I highly recommend.
The heroine was classic. The hero's transformation perfect. Very entertaining, fun, with some suspense thrown in. Kept me turning the pages late at night.
Great Story!

Loved it. It had everything. Romance and suspense. The only thing that bothered me was that while the stepmother was sick, no doctor was called. I would have assumed her father would have been more concern regardless of how busy he was. And whatever happen to Hastings? But all in all it was good. It had the bad people, the damsel in distress, and the man who decided to finally become the hero at the end.
I gave this book a five star rating because it had all the elements of a good read, passion, humor and a happy ending. I would recommend this book to all romantic readers.
Overall I really did like this book, and I would read more by this author. Devin and Miranda were great characters, and the "who's the bad guy?" mystery that was the backbone of this story was quite interesting and hard to guess. Devin is quite the desirable dark hero too, and Miranda was intelligent and spoke her mind (but not in an annoying way.) The passion between these two was heated, but don't read this book looking for a "sizzling read". It's not that type of romance book. Bedroom scenes come very late in the book, and they were rather glossed over. My ONLY true complaint was that the ending was wrapped up with such hyper-speed. The last 30 or so pages had many of the main characters confessing and purging their hidden secrets at an alarming pace just to wrap up the story. There was no reason for much of the confessions either - they were just spewing stuff like "I never wanted anyone to know, but I must confess!" It just felt so phony. The conclusion of the story was quite cleaver though, I just didn't like the style of delivery.
I enjoyed this book very much. I like the character of Miranda very much. I did like the character of Devin, though I thought he was a little depraved during the first half of the book. As far as his mistress, Leona, she was perverted and evil. This story really did not need perverted and depraved characters. Evil would have been enough. Also I think Elizabeth's story could have been left out. without losing anything from the story.
