Bradley is a twelve year old boy, growing up in a small town, struggling to find his way through his first year of middle school. He and his closest friends retreat to their daily hideout in the woods where unbeknownst to them another creature is hiding. Bradley's dreams of making the football team and winning the heart of the cutest girl in the school come crushing down on him as he is forced to reckon with the biggest bully in the school. Just as it looks as though things cannot get any worse for the young boy, he encounters a new companion. A young lion, kidnapped from his home in Africa, has escaped his captors while en route to an American zoo. These two companions find themselves linked in more ways than one, forming a bond that will have them relying on each other as they are on the run from authorities intent on bringing the boy home and capturing The Lion.

This was a great read! It has everything. Well, it didn't have a submarine, but that might not have fit the plot. Anyway, who doesn't identify with Bradley. Also, who hasn't had a Todd in their life. Great story. Loved the end can see him living the rest of his life out at the sanctuary. Could not put it down.
Great book of lessons for kids! Well crafted story with a good lesson. Your kids will love it. Buy it!
I really enjoyed this book. It's hard to say whether I most enjoyed the beginning, middle or the end. It was all really great. At times I had a hard time stopping at night because I really wanted to see what happened next. The characters were really great and actually learned a lot reading about their adventure. RS - Age 9.
This is a very well written book that can hold the interest of adults as well as children. The story has elements that every child can relate to and adults will remember from their school days. Plus, its got a lion! Let's hope Mr. Isley cranks out many more like it. I will definitely read future offerings!
The Lion is a wonderful book. It really gives a neat perspective on what it is like to be a lion that is taken from his home in Africa. He is brought to captivity and forced to make friends with other lions. If you like animals this is a great book for you, it may be sad at the start but things get better for the little lion that had to grow up traveling from country to country. Joseph W. Isley does a great job describing how a traumatized lion makes friends with a kid that has trouble with bullying. I highly recommend this book to readers.
It was not a long read, but found it an easy one. Basically, I really enjoyed the whole story. It is worth the read. Had a very nice message.
